I Survived the Attacks of September 11, 2001 Book Review

As adults, most of us will have no problem remembering the events that occurred on 9/11. But, what about the younger generation?

We just posted a review of the children's book: I Survivedthe Attacks of September 11, 2001, by Lauren Tarshis.

Brad Thor Black List

Review of Black List by Brad Thor

Black List by Brad Thor

I have a confession… Black List is the very first Brad Thor book I’ve read. I know, I know… His work has certainly been marketed towards the pro-gun crowd.  And I’ve heard plenty of great reviews about his writing. Why I’ve waited this long to read one of his books I can’t really say.

So, what did I think?

Battleship The Movie

I have to admit... I love going to the movies.

I believe I saw the first preview for Battleship on Superbowl Sunday. One preview, and I KNEW I would be at the theater on opening night.

By now, I'm sure you have heard the basic story line... Aliens invade and a select few from the Navy have to fight them off.

Battleship the Movie

Actually, before we went to see the actual movie, I read the book.  Which, I thought was definitely worth reading!  I tried to convince my wife to read it as well, but no luck!

Finally, the day of the movie arrived. Keep in mind... I have been reminding my family for a week or so that we HAD to go on opening night.  So, I was doing my fair share of promoting the movie in our house!

On the way to the movie, we all gave a score (0-10) of how excited we were to see the movie. Our son and I topped the chart at 8s.  My wife was a little less enthusiastic... She was wasn't willing to go above a 4.  I tried to convince her that she was really more excited to see it than that, but she held firm.

I'm not going to give out any details of the movie... I'll just say that I really enjoyed it. It actually followed the book pretty closely, which I liked.

Of course, after the movie we all gave it a score to indicate how much we liked it.  Our son and I give it an 8.  But, let's get to the important score... My wife... AN 8!!

I have no idea what kind of reviews this movie is receiving, but it was certainly a hit with my family.

As a side note... If you are a reader, I would recommend reading the book first. Although the movie does a good job of following a book, the book will still give you much more detail.

Battleship is available at Barnes & Noble.

Compact Pistol Concealment

We just completed a review of a product that is a great option for compact pistol concealment:  The Rohrbaugh R-9 Grip Panel Replacement for Concealed Carry.

Rohrbaugh R-9 Grip Panel Replacement for Concealed Carry

Although different from the holster based concealment we are all accustomed to, the Covert Carrier is a great concealed carry option for compact pistols.  Be sure to check out the full review of the Rohrbaugh R-9 Grip Panel Replacement for Concealed Carry.

ArmaLite in The Eden Prophecy

I like to wind down in the evenings with a little reading.  With the type of books I tend to read (Action/Adventure/Mystery), there often seems to be some gun fire involved.  As you might guess, I’m always interested in the type of guns being used.

Over the weekend I finished up the last book in a three book series by Graham Brown.  I just thought it was appropriate that I give a thank-you to ArmaLite for helping fight the bad guys…

Page 225 of The Eden Prophecy:

“As Danielle and Sonia raced away, Hawker cracked off a half-dozen shots from the ArmaLite.”

Thanks ArmaLite for a job well done!

If you are a reader, be sure to check out the following books by Graham Brown (I would suggest reading them in order):

I thought the books were pretty entertaining.  However, there were a few issues with the gun terminology… (e.g. loading another clip, rather than another magazine….)

If you check out these books, be sure to let me know what you think.

One Second After

One Second After, by William Forstchen gives us some insight as to what would happen to our country after an EMP attack.  The book is eye-opening, entertaining, and absolutely terrifying!

Universal Brass Catcher

This has been a great week for shooting accessories... This time we received the Universal Brass Catcher from CTK Precision.

Assembly of the Universal Brass Catcher is a breeze.  The following three steps take under a minute:

1. Attach the net to the Brass Catcher Frame
2. Slip the back net stud through the bottom of the net
3. Slip the rear net support over the net stud

I'm a firm believer in the concept of treating others the way I want to be treated.  That means, when I'm at the range, I pick up my brass.  I'm counting on the Universal Brass Catcher to speed up that process for me, and give me more shooting time.

Stay tuned for a full review of the Universal Brass Catcher.  If you want to beat me to it, just visit CTK Precision and pick one up for yourself.

Shooting Rest Assembled

Last night I assembled the Compact Shooting Rest.  As I suspected, it was a pretty quick process.  It probably took about 15 minutes.

Can't wait to get it to the shooting range!

Shown in this picture of the Compact Shooting Rest is a Sig P226.

Compact Shooting Rest

Sometimes, shooting bench space is a bit limited.  Today we received a shipment from CTK Precision that is going to help free up some of that real estate: The P3 Compact Shooting Rest.

As you can see, I'll need to spend a few minutes putting the Compact Shooting Rest together.  But, I've skimmed through the easy-to-understand directions and anticipate that it will be a breeze.

As I mentioned, The P3 Compact Shooting Rest should help when bench space is limited.  But, I should also point out that this shipment also contained the Pistol Post Add-On (far right side of picture).  The Pistol Post Add-On is meant to be used while shooting pistols with laser grips, or short barrel revolvers.

No doubt, I am looking forward to getting this to the range.  Stay tuned for the full review of the P3 Compact Shooting Rest and Pistol Post Add-On.

AR-15 22LR Conversion

AR-15 22LR Conversion Kits are gaining in popularity. They allow you to spend time at the range, without having to stress over the cost of each round. If you are in the market for such a kit (and stress reducer), be sure to check out the CMMG AR-15 22LR Conversion Kit Review that is now posted on the LuckyGunner site.

The review, performed by Bob Owens, does a great job of showing what you can expect from the CMMG Conversion Kit. Although some 22LR conversion kits on the market have been known to be less than reliable, the CMMG 22LR Conversion Kit does a great job during this review!

For more info, read the full CMMG AR-15 22LR Conversion Kit Review at LuckyGunner.

Glock Magazine Cleaning Tools

ATTN Glock owners...

After shooting, you always do a good job of cleaning your Glock, right? Well, what about the Glock magazines? Speaking for myself, I have to admit that the magazines get a light cleaning, at best.

We just tested the GTUL and Mag Brush Combo! As it turns out, these are must have Glock Magazine cleaning tools!

Magnalube Gun Grease Review

We just posted the Magnalube Gun Grease review!

Magnalube Gun Grease
SNEAK PEAK:

I’ll admit right up front: when I was asked to review a synthetic lubricant from Magnalube of Linden, NJ, I wasn’t expecting to be impressed. It’s not that I had any unfavorable information about Magnalube, but rather, that in the world of gun lubricants, there’s just a lot of snake oil (heh, heh, heh) out there. And when it comes to gun lubrication, I set the bar high. But I’m happy to admit that I’d underestimated Magnalube: this product is a versatile, viable alternative to gun oil.
