Mark Craighead CrossBreed Holsters

The following is a Facebook post from Crossbreed Holsters that confirms the passing of the company founder, Mark Craighead.

“Friends of Crossbreed, it is with the greatest sadness that we share with you that our extraordinary friend and Founder, Mark Craighead, passed away this afternoon. We will continue his commitment to the values that made his life count and that created the quality products that you count on. He'd want you remember the Cross in Crossbreed. He always did.”

Without a doubt, this news is shocking to many people. I can only imagine the impact this is having on his family. But, I think it is important for them to know the impact Mark has had on others.

For a long time to come, we will read posts and stories about how Mark started a company that makes great holsters.  We all know that he created a great product.  But, I just wanted to take a moment to tell you about how Mark impacted my life.

In 2006 I began to work full-time creating ArmsVault.  At the time, no one in the firearm community knew me or my site, and money was certainly scarce. To be quite honest, there were several times I just didn’t know if I could pull it off. I don’t exactly remember how it came about, but in late 2006 (11/27/06, to be exact), Mark Craighead informed me that CrossBreed Holsters wished to become a supporter of the ArmsVault site (CrossBreed was only the second company to take that plunge).  If this hadn’t happened when it did, I’m not sure that ArmsVault would be here today.

Since then, the ArmsVault Network has grown, as has our relationship with CrossBreed Holsters. I realize that we aren’t the largest organization they have supported, but that doesn’t change the level of our gratitude. Had Mark not come along and taken a chance by supporting a start-up website like ArmsVault, things would be very different now for me and my family.

To Mark’s family… I am so sorry for your loss. Mark will be missed by many. And I certainly won’t forget what he has done for me and my family.

Concealed Carry and Exercise

We all know the importance of exercise.  The following is an article from our friends at Stealth Defense Holsters that discusses concealed carry AND exercise.

Stealth Defense Holsters began the new-year with an article promoting exercise; Concealed Carry Runners & Joggers.  Winter weather may have hindered efforts to start, or continue a program; but, with beautiful weather coming, it’s time to rekindle some thoughts on the subject.

Concealed Carry pundits continuously emphasize the importance of shooting practice at the range, however, it should be noted that a body “tune-up” will also improve your self-defense capabilities.  Personal exercise programs should be designed to improve physical fitness at a moderate pace.  Intensity level can increase later if you decide to become a “jock”; however, initially make gradual, continuous improvement over current levels. 

Exercise can be an enjoyable part of daily life along with improvements of mental and physical health, self-esteem and a positive attitude.  Workout programs can create social or family value when done with others plus offer opportunities to visit walking or biking trails and enjoy nature’s environment.

Thought should also be given to personal comfort and care of your weapon during these activities.  Carrying a “two-pounder” is going to make things more difficult than a ten-ounce weapon.  It’s important to wear a holster that fits snug against your body and dampens the “bounce” experienced with many holsters while running or walking.

Perspiration, especially in the summer months, can become a problem with your holster, gun and bullets.  An undershirt, small washcloth or handkerchief tucked in behind your holster, will absorb sweat and wick it out to a larger area to improve evaporation and comfort.  Wiping your handgun with a surface protectant, purchased from your gun dealer, will protect against tarnish and/or rust...and what about wet powder?  Weapons can be successfully fired under water; however it’s difficult to know when a bullet becomes dead under prolonged exposure to dampness.  It may be good practice to frequently exchange cartridges.

There is no doubt that physical fitness makes us better prepared for Concealed Carry and offers health improvements plus new opportunities for enjoying life…see you on the trails dude!

Why Concealed Carry

So, why are we so pro concealed carry?  Below is a great article by our friends at Stealth Defense Holsters that does a good job of explaining why concealed carry is currently so important.

We are constantly reminded of daily shootings by the media that often cause mob-mentality reactions from the public.  Everyone is disturbed by this chronic problem and anxious to offer solutions, but, do we actually know the “root cause” of the problem?  Politicians and other civic leaders are constantly arguing about what should be done, but, have they really studied the problem or are they merely promoting their personal agenda?

Root cause analysis is nothing more than a systematic accumulation of evidence that identifies the major reasons for an event; however a basic understanding of human nature indicates explanations for public violence are quite obvious and we don’t need some expensive study to find the answers.

The “catch & release” decisions made by our civil leaders must be changed.  If you “did the crime…do the time”, with no exceptions.  It’s appalling how many felons, with multiple convictions, are walking the streets.  Lack of parental control, lack of education, lack of role models, no job, negative environment, peer pressure, lack of self-esteem exacerbate our problems, and how about those violent, sadistic video games that our children play.

We must all wake up and understand that no problem can be solved without first eliminating the root cause; otherwise crimes will continue to fester.  Family structure must be improved and Civil Leaders must remove all political, emotional and self-interest components from this issue.  An enormous community effort over many years is required to alleviate these obvious problems.  

The root cause analysis (reason) of why you and I concealed carry is driven by the daily media and requires no further explanation…”keep on packin dude”
